About the role
We hire juniors because a small team is a good place to learn: you see the whole system, ship real work quickly, and get direct feedback from experienced engineers.
You do not need a computer science degree. You need to have built things, to be able to explain them, and to want to get better.
What you will do
- Fix bugs and build small features across the back end and storefronts, with review and pairing from senior engineers.
- Write and maintain tests for the code you change.
- Help keep documentation and changelogs accurate.
- Take part in planning, retrospectives and releases.
What we are looking for
- Some professional, freelance, open-source or substantial personal experience with JavaScript or TypeScript.
- Basic understanding of HTTP, SQL and Git.
- Able to work from our Mildenhall office two or three days a week.
- Right to work in the UK.
Nice to have
None of these are required. They are things that would make you productive sooner.
- A project we can look at: a GitHub repository, a deployed site, an app.
- Any exposure to Node.js back ends or to e-commerce.
The process for this role
- Application review (within 5 working days) — We read every application ourselves and reply to everyone, whatever the outcome.
- Intro call (30 minutes) — A 30-minute video call about the role, your background and what you are looking for.
- Pairing session (60 minutes) — An hour pairing with one of our engineers on a small, real task. We are interested in how you think and communicate, not in trick questions.
- Meet the team (45 minutes) — A relaxed conversation with the people you would work with day to day, and a chance to ask us anything.
- Offer — A written offer with salary, start date and terms. We aim to move from application to offer in under three weeks.
You will receive a reference number the moment you apply and can follow your application through each stage. We reply to every applicant.
