About the role

Our platform runs on our own Proxmox VE cluster plus hosted servers, fronted by Cloudflare, with Proxmox Backup Server and restic for recovery. It works, and it is mostly automated, but there is plenty to make simpler, safer and better observed.

This is a hands-on role for someone who likes owning infrastructure and writing the code that keeps it boring.

What you will do

  • Own the Proxmox cluster, guest provisioning, backups and disaster-recovery drills.
  • Automate deployments for our Node, Python and static sites (systemd, pm2, nginx, GitHub Actions).
  • Build monitoring and alerting that tells us about problems before customers do.
  • Manage MariaDB and PostgreSQL: upgrades, replication, backups, performance.
  • Harden and document the estate: TLS, secrets, access control, Cloudflare rules.

What we are looking for

  • Four or more years running Linux systems in production.
  • Confident with Proxmox or another virtualisation platform, and with containers.
  • Scripting in Bash and Python, and comfortable reading TypeScript.
  • Practical experience with backups and restores, TLS, DNS and reverse proxies.
  • Right to work in the UK.

Nice to have

None of these are required. They are things that would make you productive sooner.

  • Proxmox Backup Server, ZFS or Ceph.
  • Terraform, Ansible or similar configuration management.
  • Cloudflare Workers, WAF and Zero Trust.
  • Running MariaDB Galera or PostgreSQL replication.

The process for this role

  3. Technical conversation (90 minutes) — A working session with two engineers on a realistic problem from our codebase. No whiteboard puzzles and nothing to prepare in advance.
  4. Meet the team (45 minutes) — A relaxed conversation with the people you would work with day to day, and a chance to ask us anything.
  5. Offer — A written offer with salary, start date and terms. We aim to move from application to offer in under three weeks.
