About the role

Hulo Global builds and runs software that businesses depend on every day: two e-commerce storefronts on Vendure, a suite of Vendure plugins sold to other merchants, PayrollOS, and the platform behind them.

This role is for an experienced engineer who is comfortable owning a problem end to end. You will design and build features, review the work of others, keep production healthy, and help decide what we build next.

What you will do

  • Design, build and ship features across the Vendure back end (NestJS, TypeORM, GraphQL) and the Qwik and Astro front ends.
  • Lead technical design for new plugins and larger changes, and write it down so others can follow.
  • Review pull requests with care, and mentor mid-level and junior engineers.
  • Own production quality: observability, incident response during working hours, and the fixes that stop incidents recurring.
  • Work directly with the founder and customers to turn vague requirements into scoped, shippable work.

What we are looking for

  • Five or more years building and running production web systems, with deep TypeScript and Node.js experience.
  • Strong relational database skills (we use MariaDB and PostgreSQL) including schema design, migrations and query performance.
  • Experience operating what you build: Linux, containers or VMs, CI, logging and monitoring.
  • Clear written communication. Much of our work happens asynchronously.
  • Right to work in the UK.

Nice to have

None of these are required. They are things that would make you productive sooner.

  • Vendure, Medusa, Saleor or another headless commerce platform.
  • Stripe integrations, payment flows and fraud controls.
  • Qwik, SolidJS or another resumable or fine-grained front-end framework.
  • Python, for the smaller services around the platform.

The process for this role

  1. Application review (within 5 working days) — We read every application ourselves and reply to everyone, whatever the outcome.
  2. Intro call (30 minutes) — A 30-minute video call about the role, your background and what you are looking for.
  3. Technical conversation (90 minutes) — A working session with two engineers on a realistic problem from our codebase. No whiteboard puzzles and nothing to prepare in advance.
  4. Meet the team (45 minutes) — A relaxed conversation with the people you would work with day to day, and a chance to ask us anything.
  5. Offer — A written offer with salary, start date and terms. We aim to move from application to offer in under three weeks.

You will receive a reference number the moment you apply and can follow your application through each stage. We reply to every applicant.
