About the role

You will join a small engineering team that ships to production most days. The work spans the whole stack: GraphQL APIs and background jobs in the Vendure back end, storefront pages in Qwik, admin UI in Angular, and the marketing site in Astro.

We are looking for someone with a few years of professional experience who wants more ownership than a large company offers, and the support to grow into a senior role.

What you will do

  • Implement features and fixes across the back end, storefronts and admin UI, from ticket to release.
  • Write tests that give the team confidence, and keep the ones we have honest.
  • Take part in code review, planning and the weekly release.
  • Investigate customer-reported issues and follow them through to a fix.
  • Contribute to our open plugin documentation and changelogs.

What we are looking for

  • Two or more years of professional software development, mostly in TypeScript or JavaScript.
  • Comfortable with SQL and with a Node.js back-end framework (NestJS, Express, Fastify or similar).
  • Familiar with Git-based workflows, pull requests and CI.
  • Curious, careful and happy to ask questions early.
  • Right to work in the UK.

Nice to have

None of these are required. They are things that would make you productive sooner.

  • Experience with an e-commerce or payments codebase.
  • GraphQL schema design or Apollo/Mercurius experience.
  • Any front-end framework beyond React: Qwik, Svelte, Vue, Angular.
  • Accessibility and performance work on public websites.

The process for this role

  1. Application review (within 5 working days) — We read every application ourselves and reply to everyone, whatever the outcome.
  2. Intro call (30 minutes) — A 30-minute video call about the role, your background and what you are looking for.
  3. Technical conversation (90 minutes) — A working session with two engineers on a realistic problem from our codebase. No whiteboard puzzles and nothing to prepare in advance.
  4. Meet the team (45 minutes) — A relaxed conversation with the people you would work with day to day, and a chance to ask us anything.
  5. Offer — A written offer with salary, start date and terms. We aim to move from application to offer in under three weeks.

You will receive a reference number the moment you apply and can follow your application through each stage. We reply to every applicant.
